This week “Autoline After Hours” goes retro from the site of the world’s largest one-day automotive event, The Woodward Dream Cruise. Crowds and cars will be populating the sidewalks and parking lots as many of the 40,000 classics get Woodward Avenue warmed up for the big day.

    really fun show…Mopar’s new stuff is unbelievable, esp an aluminum 426 in the 300….I was too young by ten years to enjoy the 60s, had to go thru my teenage years in the 80s, and, as a consequence, never thought I’d get to enjoy crazy fast muscle cars but the mopar discussions made my friday evening.

    Dedicated lanes may sound like a good idea, but it would be a huge loss of available lanes for relguar vehicles and parking on El Camino increasing traffic congestion for a limited benefit. I’m a relguar rider of the 22 line through Santa Clara into downtown San Jose. In the current mixed-use model, the 22 buses stay very close to schedule, even when mixing with traffic.I also live just off El Camino in Santa Clara, and the traffic congestion with 6 available lanes is awful at key times of the day. Taking away lanes will make that even worse. (And everyone will be sitting there stuck in traffic looking at empty, occasionally-used, bus-only lanes.) And the same warning should apply to the traffic signal priority system. Caltrans/Santa Clara have done pretty well in timing lights along ECR to this point. Messing up that timing for El Camino and key intersecting streets will do more harm than good, again for limited benefit.
