    Does the Korean sales number for GM include GM of Korea, formerly Daewoo? I assume so. If so, are numbers for North American GM products available?

    I watched a video of cars doing the flying mile. There is a 1500-2000 HP twin turbo Ford GT that hit 252 MPH . It went past the cameras at the finish line and sounded like a low flying jet fighter plane.

    One positive result for ‘the show’ may be that a driver who is more enclosed might be able to show more of their face. Put a camera on them.

    HtG , I highly doubt you’ll see more of the driver’s face . NASCAR , Daytona Prototypes , Lemans and Touring cars are all closed cockpit and wear full face air fed helmets.

    Sorry to what happened to Wilson, but that is the potential costs anytime they get in any racecar. It was a freak accident and if they go closed cockpits and completely closed off wheels ( Indy Car is nearly there already) Then technically it isn’t the same sport any longer. Indy and F1 are Open cock pit ,and Open wheels if you feel those classes are unsafe as a driver than race in Touring cars and the like.

    You’ve heard about Renesas before, if only because I’ve posted about them. Theirs is the level to focus on, like the NVidia level. And what’s the model to apprehend about how computing will interact with cars? PARTNERSHPS. That means industry consortiums developing standards. It means working together rather than ‘not invented here’ comfort zones. The customer won’t see it, but the business model of the partnership is what has transformed the computing landscape. (I recall when Autoline spoke to Ford’s chief tech officer and he also spoke of ‘partnership.’) It’s the future, and cars will be normalized.*

    There is a book called Crowdsourcing which gives insight into computer industry development. It is totally at odds to auto industry development.

    Regarding the Justin Wilson Tragedy. My condolences to his family and all those who’ve enjoyed watching his career. The crash structure that hit him was definitely a massive object that could be deflected at appropriate speeds from intrusion into the drivers space. It would create numerous compromises to various aspects of the safety of the driver. Some of the compromises could be attenuated through clever engineering, but I feel it sometimes leads to further unpredictable consequences. I feel the hasty addition of a canopy or visor could be detrimental to the overall survivability of racing incidents. There are just too many big pieces flying around that have been shed from a crashed indycar or F1 car.
