    I can’t feel bad for VW they’re getting what they deserve. The defeat software was installed knowingly and thus they brought it on themselves.

    The arrogance of the VW management has come home to bite them in the a.. as it should.

    VW is kind of like the embezzler that steals $2 million and then is ordered to make restitution. He basically gets away with stealing $2 million. The DoJ is in a tough spot. Make the fine too much (but proper) and they won’t get a dime. Too little and they public cries foul. What can they do? How can VW be forced to pay. Tell them they can’t sell in the U.S. anymore and affect the jobs of those involved plus leave customers stranded? My guess, they walk away with a stern warning and go on double secret probation.

    @ Lisk: What you said could be true,but that only accounts for the USA.VW is in trouble in the motherland too,as well as other countries.They may slide some,but in the end,vw will take a hit like no other oem ever has.

    Personally I think the new Compass looks more like a fancy Renegade (rather a smaller Grand Cherokee); semantics, I know but that was my first ‘take’ (when I saw it). And of course, same brand, similar looks; that’s pretty much a given.

    I suspect the Compass IS a fancier, and stretched Renegade, regardless of what it looks like. It sound like they will build it in Brazil for the U.S. market, so we will be able to get Jeeps from Brazil, Italy, and the U.S.

    While I really like the look of the hardtop Mazda MX5, the price is very high.
    Here in Canada, a BRZ Sporttech goes for $31k and the new Mazda hardtop starts at $46k and goes up! Great car, but… I don’t think even Mazda thinks it will sell as there is only 50 for Canada.

    I’m surprised there is room to market position the new Compass between the Renegade and the Cherokee. It’ll be interesting to see how many incremental sales it provides and how much it cannibalized from the Cherokee/Renegade.

    9 I thought that too. The old Compass and Patriot were crude, but relatively cheap, which created some market for them. I would expect the new Compass to cost more than the old one, probably very close to a basic Cherokee.

    I really like to look of the New Jeep Compass!
    That is what the Jeep Cherokee should have looked like when it debuted. I bet the Compass will steal sales away from the Cherokee and other brands with models in that segment long as FCA gives it a reasonable MSRP.

    You know that if the DOJ is too harsh on VW the German Government will get involved and then you can forget about selling US Brands in Europe. The Europeans will lock step and try to under sell US Brands to the point they can not survive in Europe.

    On the other hand if the DOJ levies VW with a hefty fine which zaps away cash earmarked for they EV initiative (30 models) in the US the US government will give Tesla, Toyota, Nissan and other OEMs a clear advantage over VW.

    I still say VW is better off joining forces maybe with FCA to weather this storm and rebuild its brand in the US market. I much prefer the styling of the Chrysler 200 over the Passat or Jetta. The VW products look cheap and bland. The Chrysler 200 along with the new Pacific minivan is the right styling for future Chrysler vehicles. FCA was correct to kill off the Dodge Dart. Jeep, Dodge and Ram should always have their own style, characteristics and functionality.
    Good work Sergio Marchionne on pointing FCA in the right direction.

    I like the 200 and Pacifica (like Lex, Pacific would sound better), but Town and Country would have sounded more upscale. Name goes back to before WWII. I had the original Pacifica (named after the California design studio) and liked it, but moved on after the employee lease was up. The Dart may have been a good car, but the name wasn’t a good choice.

    I like the look of the new Compass. I would like the Cherokee to adopt the front styling. I have a 2015 Cherokee Trailhawk and can’t understand why the DRLs weren’t made larger with real headlamps. The real headlamps look awful. Don’t see the diesel making it to the US. Probably the 2.4 of the Renegade for top engine. How about the 2 liter turbo of the 124?

    I found that YouTube has been given a number of videos of the 2018 Compass. This one is a little over 2 minutes. My computer and iPad go right into another that is 23 minutes. I see one that is 45 minutes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJrxU3SDHSg&feature=youtu.be

    I think the 200 is one of the better looking cars in its class, but it is near the bottom in packaging, comfort, etc. Unfortunately, they are dropping the 200, rather than fixing what’s wrong with it.

    I hope the new Pacifica can help make minivans more fashionable. For carrying people, and many types of cargo, they are much better than SUV’s, but car buyers don’t seem to care.

    You’d think they would have used a new name for the Compass. The outgoing one was kind of a bottom feeder from the start, and a different name should create a better image for the new product.

    16 Yeah, that’s part of it, especially where it snows, but Toyota offers AWD in the Sienna, with a low take rate. Chrysler offered AWD in their vans for a while, but dropoed it because of low take rate. For whatever reason, vans aren’t “cool.”

    I got the opportunity to test out the Pacifica and it doesn’t drive like the old ones at all. Perhaps it may turn on some new buyers but at the same time disappoint those who were used and liked the old ones better.

    21 Pedro, how was it different? Does it ride stiffer, or something like that? My “antique” van is soft and wallowy, but a fun change once in a while, from the decidedly non-soft ride of the Mini and ‘Vette. The Prius is kind of in between.

    It rides firmer than the older ones and the Journey too, very quiet, it has a much better platform and the V6 is effortless going down the road plus the 9 speed transmission is finally tuned correctly. Great highway mileage.

    Was VW ever really serious about the THIRTY EV models, or was that just more propaganda to try to distract from diesel-gate and to put a new spin on VW being a concerned, eco-friendly, “clean” company? Talk is cheap and VW management was perhaps hoping CARB/EPA would go easier on them. Since that didn’t work, VW management can now argue they can’t deliver on the all those promised EV models due to the US agencies unfairly fining them.
