    Sean, when you say “Diesel sales are growing faster than the overall market. And diesels have more market share than hybrids, plug-ins and electric cars combined,” does the diesel count include the “heavy duty” pickups, or just the handful of cars and SUV’s, and the light duty Ram, etc.?

    I thought they had reported that about half of Ram trucks are being sold with the small diesel.

    John, Chuck here: In reference to your response on the Chevy Blazer (and my saying it will step on the toes of Equinox), let me respond. Though I don’t totally object to your comment, had the Blazer come back as a Colorado derivative I could agree with your assessment more. As a go between the Equinox and Traverse, well, my opinion remains that those looking in this segment would probably be perfectly fine with the choices, and I don’t think there would be many conquest sales due to this addition. Have to admit though, the Blazer nameplate has a lot of heritage; whether they (GM/Chevrolet) are willing to (maybe) jeopardize that nameplate with a go-between CUV; well that’s their business.

    Those diesel numbers we quoted does include heavy duty pickups. They account for 13% of all diesel sales.

    Buzzerd,
    Diesels account for 31% of all Ram pickup sales.

    4 Thanks, John. It looks like Ram 1500 must be the biggest selling diesels.

    To me, the Blazer “heritage” would mean that a new Blazer should be based on the Colorado, and maybe be available with two doors. It could be available equipped as a hard core off-road vehicle, a somewhat more civilized Wrangler competitor. That might be too small of niche to be worth tooling such a vehicle, though.

    Kit – Blazer was based on C/K pickup so heritage based would be a Silverado based vehicle.

    @6 – Bob, Chevy also sold an S-10 Blazer, based on the compact S-10 pickup. The C/K Blazer has evolved into a Tahoe. So, I think Kit is on the right track with encouragement of a Colorado-based Blazer…. as a Silverado-based Blazer will canabolize sales from Tahoe.

    The Tahoe name was used for two door big Blazers, and maybe a trim level for a while, before they started calling all of the big ones Tahoe.

    The big (K-5) Blazers were renamed Tahoe in 1995 to match the all new 4-door version of the truck after they were rebodied for 1992. The S-10 version was referred to as a S-10 Blazer and it arrived as a 1983. The bigger Blazer was then called a K-5 Blazer (even though a 2wd version was available it was still called K-5; 2wd Chevy trucks normally carry a “C” designation.)

    I agree that the new Blazer should be based on the Colorado but I think the sheer size would make it as big or bigger than the new Traverse.

    10, Yeah, the shortest wheelbase used for the Colorado is 128 inches, way too long for a Blazer even close to the size of the S-10 Blazer. Chopping the frame, shortening the drive shaft, etc, would get expensive.
