    The NASCAR Camaro looks good. Nice that it is already available to the public unlike the SS which didn’t arrive in showrooms until the 1st season of competition ended. It was a sales dog when it was released which I can only attribute to it’s generic styling and way too high price tag. I wonder if this will give Ford a reason to consider the Mustang for it’s Cup car as well as the Xfinity car?

    @ XA351GT: It’s no secret that nascar bores me to tears,but it never occurred to me that ford wasn’t racing the mustang at nascar.What are they running?

    G.A., Ford is basing its vehicle on the Fusion.

    Ford has been running a Fusion-looking body for NASCAR. In case anyone forgot, NASCAR race cars have very little commonality with production cars. Historically, NASCAR race cars were much larger than pony cars. But today’s pony cars are now much closer in size to NASCAR’s “template”.

    I wonder if the NASCAR Camaro was just thrown on an existing chassis because the front wheel looks to be set very far rearward in the wheel well in that side photo.

    I don’t believe ride sharing will hurt auto sales that much. Look at it from a transportation supply and demand perspective. We continue to have an increase in people needing transportation. Everyone still needs to get from point A to point B. So they either buy a car rent a car share a car but still use a car. Rented/shared cars will just be utilized more often meaning they will also wear out faster and need to be replaced sooner. Mass transit would have a more significant impact.

    Ford currently runs the Fusion in Cup as others already said. They Do run a car with Mustang decals in the lower Xfinity (Busch for us old timers) series. Chevy ran the SS in Cup and the Camaro in Xfinity. Toyota is running the Camry in both ,but who knows if the rumors are true about a new Supra maybe they will adopt it to one or both series. Dodge was running the Charger in Cup and the Challenger in Xfinity before they withdrew from the sport.

    You’d think Ford might go to Mustang for cup, unless the Fusion is just better, aero-wise, within the rules as they exist.

    Referring back to yesterday’s topic, the link (if you click on my name) is to an article about battery technology that is coming out. The future tech batteries last exceedingly long, have no degradation from minus 22 degrees to 212 degrees F (solid state), mileage ranges reaching from 500 to 1100 miles, full charge times down to 6-7 minutes, some are very lightweight, etc. Materials from nano gold wire and copper foam to inexpensive common materials.
    Having seen the tremendous and exponential technology changes in everyday life in the past 4 decades, one can only imagine what will be achieved in the next 4.

    #5. The fact that Chevy is using Camaro styling for next year’s NASCAR season instead of the SS tells you what is going to happen with the SS.

    With the SS gone, I expected Chevy to call their cup car Malibu, since Ford and Toyota name their cup cars after mid-size front drive sedans. I expected wrong.

    The “race on Sunday what you drive on Monday” days are gone. NASCAR fans used to identify with a brand because of how they preformed on the track. Now they all look like the same car with different headlight taillight stickers.
    I know the thought was make racing more exciting by bringing the pack together with more equal cars and power. Personally I’d love to see a true stock car race and let them put as much power to the track as they think their driver can handle. IMO

    In the 90′s, there was something closer than NASCAR to racing real cars, called “touring car” racing, but it didn’t go over in the US. The series lasted only two years.

    i think electrification of transport will be king at some point, but i kind of agree 10 years is a stretch considering the (lack) of battery manufacturing capacity, that will be the bottleneck alongside products offerings, not consumer preference.
    I respectfully disagree with the Sr VP of Mazda (yesterday’s show), a case built on use of less electricity is a hard sell on these cheap solar power days. Mazda needs a route to electrification as much as everyone else.

    There is enough generating capacity for a lot more electric cars, if they are charged at off-peak times. Then, tbere would be capacity for many more yet, if businesses, home owners, airports, etc. would quit freezing everyone with A/C so you need a hoodie and jeans when going inside on a 95 degree day.

    From what I understand,there are enough generating stations that are operating,and more can be recommissioned. But the weak link in the power chain is the grid itself.

    10 I’ll be interested in seeing the plugs and wiring they will use to chsrge a 100 kWh battery in 6-7 minutes, which will mean about 4500 amps at 220 volts.

    Kit, isn’t it 450 amps (I’ll yield, sometimes my math isn’t too good). Two gauge or zero gauge wire should be able to handle it. (if I’m right). :D
