    Will Autonomous vehicles like the one for the US Postal Service have cameras which can record accidents and other incidents the vehicles encounters during it’s daily travels? I could see insurance scammers staging accidents with this vehicles to file insurance claims. Also will autonomous vehicles be able to contact local police in the event of an accident?

    I don’t see the point with the post office having autonomous trucks if they still need a carrier. Post office should have a standard size mail box street side and let the truck deliver. The box would be bigger than the regular mail box, to hold packages. But I see the postal workers saying that big brother is driving and watching. The only advantage is the USPS doesn’t have to order right hand drive truck.

    Interesting touch on the 2018 Mustang “rocker shields” a visual throwback to the running boards look of yore!

    As to the PO running autonomous vehicles – I suspect many drivers get distracted sorting and collecting the next delivery. (I’ve seen that in action) It’s easy to envision enhanced safety, lower labor cost and higher delivery precision could result. How wouldn’t it?

    Here’s my Post Office suggestion; forget autonomous vehicles until the technology is mature. Immediately plan to STOP deliveries on Tuesday and Thursdays. Instant savings and that makes two days I don’t have to remove junk mail from my mailbox ;) You’re welcome!

    Range Rover’s new hybrid can travel 31 miles on electric only. So, why is this a big deal? I don’t know anyone that drives only 31 miles a day!Until an electric vehicle is developed that can REALLY go 200 miles and takes less than 5 minutes to fully recharge all this hype is meaningless.

    I don’t burden my post office with delivery,other than stuffing my po box.No wasted gas,unless they had bean burritos the night before…

    It would seem that autonomy for rural postal trucks where they run basically the same route every day would make a lot of sense and would be much easier to do than general autonomous driving. Interesting that the press release stressed the automation would not displace employees… Another example of the post office missing the boat on why they would do this. Regardless, autonomy likely will reduce accidents and improve efficiencies as the employee can concentrate on stuffing mail, rather than multi-tasking of stuffing and driving.

    #5 It’s a plug-in hybrid, like a Chevy Volt. It will do most peoples’ daily commutes on plug-in power, and will go everywhere on gas. Will it be a good value? That’s another story.

    Electric vehicles will have to wait until countries around the world build the proper infrastructure meaning converting every parking space on streets to recharging stalls or the only people who will be able to recharge their EV is home owners as where will apartment dwellers recharge their cars and states like California can quickly see lawsuits of what a hardship it would become for individuals that live in an apartment to try getting their car recharged; also given the political makeup of the US Supreme Court, EV for the US will need to wait possibly 15-20 years and at a cost of $10-15 Trillion for infrastructure.

    Most Range Rovers customers have their own house to plug into. LR needs to boost its overall MPG and the brick design and weight of the RR is hard to change (now that diesel is also dead in the US for premium vehicles). The P400e will suit best in most city urban traffic jams.
    Autonomous postal vans will cut van maintenance, crashes, boost mpg and allow longer working hrs. Post and parcels can be sorted in vehicle so delivery times overall should fall. Nice to see isolated rural residents won’t be cut off from human contact anymore than at present.
