  1. Rey Says:

@5:26 VW has a way to go to catch Tesla in China in BEVs . Teslas sales was 28,000 vs VW 24,000 during the last qtr, according to Inside Evs.

  2. Rey Says:

US mining lithium problems ? A case of NIMBY? And US has one of the most rare Earth sources/ mines in Calif but choose to process in China, how dumb is that.

  3. GM Veteran Says:

So, on Jeep production, do you know what product is slated for Belvidere, is it undecided, or are they going to close that plant?

  4. Rey Says:

The Chinese are quite tech savvy, they already have cars that talk and obey and interact with drivers and passengers commands, Nio and Li Auto are already out there. Not sure how or where the Germans are, i think they are lacking in Software capabilities.

  5. Rey Says:

The Chinese probably are more advanced when it comes to 5G and connected cars , compared to the Western world, they aim to disrupt with their BEVs, and in the connected world 5G,and such.

  6. Lambo2015 Says:

I read back in August of last year Motortrend said the Corvette was getting a flat plane crank. https://www.thedrive.com/news/36053/2022-chevy-corvette-z06-will-have-625-hp-flat-plane-v8-that-revs-to-9000-rpm-report

    9000 RPM redline too.

  7. Wim van Acker Says:

@2 or very smart to use foreign rare natural resources as long as it is not a problem to do so. And then have maximum reserves when time has come to use own natural resources.

  9. Kit Gerhart Says:

Rivian has produced at least one prototype of their SUV, because they used one to take Bezos and his gang to the launch site for today’s rocket stunt.

  10. Sean Wagner Says:

9 Kit – There were several Rivians when they picked up the newly minted space scrapers. I’m still somewhat at a loss regarding Blue Origin’s trajectory when SpaceX’s Falcons are busy cornering the competitive parts of the global launch market. I count close to 30 paying missions this year.

  11. Bob Wilson Says:

#4 – “where the Germans are, … lacking in Software capabilities.” Well German, VW software had a decade of great EPA test emissions results, ‘clean diesel’, with exceptionally high mileage. So too, several German manufacturers ‘coordinated’ their emissions specs.

  12. MERKUR DRIVER Says:

    10) Going to the ISS and dropping off cargo is not their goal. The real goal of both blue origin and the virgin flights are low earth orbiting air travel for the masses. Basically get from LA to new york in an hour kind of thing. These early flights are the beginning of achieving that goal. Obviously it is prohibitively expensive now, but they are hoping to refine the design and bring the cost down. I don’t think I will ever see it in my lifetime, at least not for a reasonable cost, but would be happy to be proven wrong.

  13. Kit Gerhart Says:

10 It seems that Blue Origin’s main goal, at this point, is stoking a certain billionaire’s ego. They have a huge, new complex near the launch sites in Florida, but so far, have not flown anything there. Blue Origin have an engine under development that is supposed to eventually replace the Russian engines that have been used in Atlas 5 rockets for years. Maybe those engines will be made in the Florida facilities.

It seemed like SpaceX was doing about a launch a week when I headed north in mid-May, most of them Starlink launches.

  14. Kit Gerhart Says:

12 Yeah, they are talking about that kind of thing, but it’s a long way from auctioning off 10 minute thrill rides for $28M, to anything actually useful.

  15. MERKUR DRIVER Says:

    14) It will be like that for a good long while I suspect. In the mean time I am all for rich people funding our future travel at $28M a piece. The more rich people that spend their 28M on thrill rides the sooner cost effective prices will come for the masses.

  16. Lambo2015 Says:

15 Same could be said for EVs. Let the rich buy the 50-100K EVs and when they come down to the realistic price of 25-30K then think about ICE bans not before.

  17. Ken Says:

No surprise STELLANTIS would outsource to another country and build on the cheap.

Ah for the good old days when items were ‘Made In America With Pride.’
