AAH #124 – Ashtrays and Paper Cups

October 28th, 2011 at 1:02pm

Download MP3

(Archived video after the jump below)

This week we’re calling Consumer Reports to the mat. As far as we’re concerned, their automotive testing is second to none, but when it comes to quality ratings: bogus. Much has been made of Ford’s plummeting status in the latest survey, but we’ll talk about whether the folks in Dearborn have to start worrying or not. We’ll also get into the news of the week including the third quarter financial results. Plus we want to talk about what we, including one of our viewers, think the next generation of Mustang could look like. To discuss this and more, John McElroy is joined in studio by Peter De Lorenzo the Autoextremist and Charlie Vogelheim from ResponseLogix.

RoAb #102 – I Read Pictures, Not Words

October 23rd, 2011 at 8:07pm

Pictures-not-Words-Ford-Truck-Autoline

Coming up on RoundAbout . . . Chinese quality strikes again.  No, I’m not talking lead-slathered toys or melamine-tainted toothpaste, we’re going nautical this time.  States are cracking down on dogs behind the wheel.  And “Family Guy” rips on the Mazda Miata and papa ain’t happy.  Like a popular fried chicken fast-food chain, RoAb comes seasoned with 11 herbs and spices.

This week we’re thinking small. Micro actually. Our special guest for this episode is Jack Hollis, the Vice President of Scion. We’ll be talking about the pint-sized iQ and whether it could be the car that gets the brand’s mojo back. We’ll also get into the news of the week including the Indy race that never should have been run. RoAb #101 – Brought to you by the letter “Haitch”

October 16th, 2011 at 1:38pm

RoundAbout-101-Autoline

Coming up on RoundAbout . . . oh Lord, won’t you power-wash me a Mercedes-Benz?  It’s soaked on the inside like a pair of Depends.  GM apologizes for offending bikers — no, not the leather-wearing kind that stab people with shivs — the ones that block traffic and ignore street signs.  Plus we take a look at what urban traffic actually costs you, the driver.  Stay tuned for all of this awesomeness and bucket loads more, only on RoAb.

AAH #122 – It’s the Water, Stupid

October 14th, 2011 at 12:01pm

Download MP3

(Archived video after the jump below)

This week the AAH crew is back from its hiatus and on location in the new studio. We’ll be making up for lost time, discussing some of the biggest stories we missed. Cerberus’ Bob Nardelli ran his mouth off about the Chrysler-Fiat partnership and had to issue a humiliating retraction. The guy who triggered the Nardelli backlash? None other than After Hours alumus Jason Vines. Also, the Big Three contract negotiations seem to point to the fact that the UAW is in fact running scared. And, some happy news for the Motor City, the Detroit Grand Prix will return in 2012. To discuss this and more, John McElroy is joined in studio by Peter De Lorenzo the Autoextremist with a special appearance by Mr. GreatNoRoCo himself, Roaster Jack a purveyor of fine coffee and a Buick enthusiast.

OL #5 – Kids in the Pits

(Archived video after the jump below)

We’ve said it over and over here at Autoline: kids just aren’t into cars the way they used to be. They’d rather play with their iPhones than polish a muscle car. So if you can’t get teenagers interested in driving cars, how can you ever hope to get a new generation of kids to be mechanics? That challenge is what this month’s special Open Line guest aims to solve. Pete Raskovic is a 25+ year master technician, race mechanic and automotive educator, and we’ll be asking him what advantages there are to pursuing a career in automotive education.

Open Line is LIVE on the first Tuesday of every month at 8PM ET/5PM PT with co-hosts Michelle Naranjo of Autobytel and Chelsea Sexton, an alternative fuels advocate and lover of all things automotive. This month we were joined by guest co-host Aaron Bragman of IHS Automotive.
