Coming up on RoundAbout . . . we gaze into our collective crystal ball in an attempt to predict what’s going to happen next year. Is 2012 really the end of the world or do our automotive mediums have happier news? Keep on listening . . .
Coming up on RoundAbout . . . it’s time for our annual report card. That’s right, how well did we predict what would happen in 2011? Were the automotive tarot cards accurate? Did palm reading come through for us? Should we have consulted the bones? Find out if we’re worth our salt as psychics by hitting that play button.
This week Santa Welch is comin’ to town … and Santa De Lorenzo and Santa McElroy for that matter. And, like old Kris Kringle, all three of our panelists have taken a look back at the year and decided which automakers have been naughty and which have been nice. In this special episode — the last of 2011 already — our three esteemed panelists will dole out presents for some folks and dirty lumps of coal for others. John McElroy is joined by his cohort Peter De Lorenzo and David Welch of Bloomberg.
It’s the big Open Line Finale of 2011, and boy did we find the right guest to help us go out with a bang! We’ve got the legendary automotive icon that can’t help but speak his mind: Bob Lutz. We’ll have tons to ask him, and we’re sure you will too, but chief among our concerns is the latest news about the Chevrolet Volt. The extended-range EV was developed under his wing, and we’ll be asking him whether the battery fires have been blown out of proportion. Plus, we’ll be asking him about his involvement with Lotus and where that company is going.

This week the Autoextremist gets behind the wheel while John McElroy is in Texas driving the new Chevy Malibu Eco. And, as we close in on 2012, we’ll be taking a look back at some of the biggest automotive stories of 2011 with Scott Burgess of The Detroit News and Todd Lassa from Motor Trend. As usual we’ll also get into the news of the week including China’s import tariffs on U.S. cars, Acura’s attempt to become relevant again, and the NTSB’s recommendation to ban all cell phone use in cars. All this and more with the man himself, Peter De Lorenzo.
South Korea’s latest Fluidic Sculpture contender is the Hyundai Accent, and its a good-looking car. But, is this subcompact just a pretty face? As it goes up against the likes of the Ford Fiesta and Chevrolet Sonic, it has some tough competition. We test this green monster to see if it can deliver the goods.
Coming up on RoundAbout . . . a whole lotta show! Find out what 40-mile long mess they had to clean up in Pennsylvania. Ford sends one of its long-standing nameplates into the big parking lot in the sky and you’d better be ready . . . already, for our EPIC new game, DUNGEONS AND DEALERS. Stay tuned!
This week we plan to have a quality discussion, that is, a discussion about quality. As you know, we’ve taken exception to the way Consumer Reports evaluates cars for its quality ratings. Well, our guest on this show knows a thing about automotive evaluation since he runs the website, TrueDelta.com. We’ll be asking Michael Karesh if he thinks Consumer Reports’ methodology is sound. As always we’ll be getting into the news of the week: the Chevrolet Volt issue is still burning hot, drama goes down between Nissan and the UAW and Aptera calls it quits. To discuss these stories and more, John McElroy is joined in studio by Peter De Lorenzo the Autoextremist.
