Smart Glass Can Improve Your EV’s Range – Autoline Exclusives

Self-tinting or smart glass features a thin layer of nanoparticles sandwiched between two panes of glass. When an electrical charge is applied or removed from the nanoparticle layer, the particles either line up to let light through or scatter to block it out. We first experienced this several years ago in Maybach version of the previous generation of Mercedes S-Class and it worked really well. Today, as Joe Harary, President and CEO of Research Frontiers, maker of smart glass, tell us it’s technology will not only help extend the range of the upcoming all-electric, hand-built Cadillac Celestiq sedan, but that it also has a number of other uses as well.

But before digital music files, CDs or cassette tapes came around, people were forced to listen to whatever the radio DJ wanted to play. That really changed in the mid-60′s when 8 Tracks were introduced. However, 8 Track wasn’t the only solution out there and the story of how the technology became the popular choice is very interesting. Author RJ King has written a book all about the 8 Track and we’re also joined in this interview by RJ’s father, John King, who was project engineer for the 8 Track tape player at Ford.
