    John, Good blog. I agree that the industry is necessary for a balanced economy and national defence. GM has to make changes such as getting rid of some of the unclasssfied salery talking heads that don’t do anything and dumping more divisions such as Hummer and GMC. I was disappointed that the UAW didn’t offer anything. As a UAW/GM retiree, there is more the union can do. The main reason the Republicans and tv loudmouths want the auto industry to go bankrupt is they want to bust the union. The UAW has to wake up and make more changes to help the companies. The companies need the union, and the union needs the companies. It’s a necessary evil. The only reason Toyota, Honda, Nisson, etc. provide the pay and benifits they do, is the UAW. If the UAW goes away, so does everything the foreign companies have.
