Name that Car!

March 6th, 2009 at 12:00pm

We recently chose this obscure vehicle as the subject of our latest Trivia Contest on Autoline Daily.  We challenged you to name the car, but even John didn’t know!  For the record, it’s a 1960 Koller sold in Argentina for exactly one year.

We asked for a funny/clever answer if you had no idea what the vehicle was and you didn’t disappoint.  After the jump we’ve got some of our favorite responses.  Be sure to leave yours in the Comments below!

  • Canadian 57 Chevrolet – Thomas from Canton, MI
  • Nash Christine – Joel from Renton, WA
  • If the Big Three were in the same fix back in 1958, this would be the “world car” they’d present to Congress. ’58 Ford headlights, Plymouth hubcaps, definitely GM’s “wraparound” windshield, Chrysler Corp’s fin/taillight combo, and finishing with the FOMOCO “continental kit!” All loosely based on the AMC Rambler platform – Bob from Shawnee, KS
  • 2012 Chrysler Sebring (they think retro is making a comeback!) – Mark from Swedesboro, NJ
  • It looks like a Rambler and a Corvette had unprotected sex! Yeesh – Dan from Muskegon, MI
  • 1952 VAG Moskoyeczech Ri128 – “Piercing Lebanese Streak” – Harland from Ampersand, Brackish County
  • Utopian TortiseTop, precurser to the famous Turtletop – Tony from York, PA
  • Red White and Phew – Bill from Rio Rico, AZ
  • CadilNash – Leonard from Dearborn, MI
  • In 1961 Nikita Krushchev mandated a fashionable new car to counter the new US compacts, especially the Rambler.  This is the result, powered by a 2-cylinder, 2-liter flathead engine.  Its Russian name translates as “Rumbler” – Walt from Westlake Village, CA
  • Edsella, Edsel’s ugly sister – David from Hamilton, OH
  • This is obviously the rare and forgotten 1958 Toyopet/Chevrolet “Bel Crown” – John from Tampa, FL
  • It’s GM’s last-ditch attempt to make a car that someone will buy, featuring every popular styling feature from the Fabulous Fifties, but powered by the Volt drivetrain – all the best from the past and the future! – Steve from Allentown, PA
  • 1957 Oldsmoplymouth – Steve from East Moline, IL
  • 2009 Peking Duckett – Anthony from Deerfield Beach, FL
  • Last year’s announcement of Ford and Chrysler’s merger gives birth to the new 1958 Fopar Victorian “Mr. Belvedere” model – Paul from Las Vegas, NV
