Great show! I do have one comment though, There was mention of excess capacity and the shake out of capacity in 08-09. When you consider that the hallmark of a good auto manufacturing plant is capacity utilization, and that Tesla is building not 1, but 2 new plants as we speak, isn’t anyone concerned about their ability to actually Triple their sales to fill the capacity they are bringing online right now?? What is the status of Tesla paying for the tooling for the German plant? Can they hold back on that to conserve cash? Will they?

Montana underestimates Tesla. It is a “Blue Ocean”product. They only car that gets better after you buy it. He also does not even mention they are an energy company that happens to make cars. There was no mention of the battery storage segment that municipalities are using to save a ton of money and shut down peaker plants. He also never mentions that Tesla does not advertise and because they sell direct and make a 30% margin they have room to discount their cars while others do not. Tesla has so many demand levers they could pull that other car makers do not. He just does not understand Tesla as he should. He is like an accountant looking at a balance sheet and keeps shaking his head.

It was like listening to dinosaurs how that approaching meteorite was not going to wipe ‘em out.

John, Autoline After Hours, #503, featuring Montana Skeptic, David Welch, Gary and you was superb — easily the best, most entertaining and enlightening discussion on EVs ever! Montana ripped David Welch “a new one” on the show, but only because of Montana’s exceptionally lucid and thorough understanding of the underlying issues facing Tesla. This was a textbook lesson for anyone who, up to now, doesn’t understand the fundamental business dilemma facing Elon Musk. 2020 will undoubtedly be a defining year for that company!

Thanks again for an excellent program! Montana is simply brilliant on this subject, and he expresses it clearly!

This episode had the making of another Robert Farago. That guy was not what I tune in to see. Too acerbic. Seemed disingenuous with a score to settle. I am a bit miffed you allow him to hide behind a pseudonym.
