John, the little vignettes are appreciated.
Long ago, I read an interview in German with the first Japanese guy to go work at GM Europe, or Opel to be precise.
It was the designer Hideo Kodama, and what stuck in my brain was the story he told about forcing himself to eat the (not only to him) incredibly fatty food then served at the “Werkskantine”, ie. the Rüsselsheim factory canteen, and the hard time his stomach had adjusting.
