Behind the wheel of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata, the experience does not disappoint despite its fuel-sipping four-cylinder engine. See why we think this vehicle just may be named Car of the Year.

I noted with some skepticism your claim to be getting 30 mpg for an average in the new Sonata. We are recent purchasers of a 2010 Tucson and while we very much like the basic car, the fuel mileage has been atrocious. We are barely getting the EPA city figure for trips that are almost exclusively freeway driving. I know that the Sonata’s 2.4 has direct injection and that the Sonata is more aerodynamic than the Tucson but 6 mpg seems like too much difference for vehicles of similar weight.

I have complained to Hyundai and had their district field rep drive the car. He got the same mileage that we do but they have so far not offered to do anything to help. While they have undoubtedly come a long way, they sure haven’t come as far in fuel efficiency as they are claiming.
