Autoline Daily Insight – NHTSA: Give Us More Money, We’ll Give You More Safety

June 15th, 2015 at 5:00pm

In each edition of Autoline Daily Insight we get in-depth analysis from insiders and experts on the issues that drive the news in global automotive industry.

David Strickland is a former National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) chief and currently a partner at Venable LLP. He says in his time at the agency, it and all public health and safety organizations were “grossly underfunded” and remain so today. He maintains that issues like the Takata airbag and GM ignition recalls could have been discovered and dealt with sooner if NHTSA had more resources. John McElroy asks him, among other things, whether the agency will get the funding Strickland says it needs.
