    Though I have heard of the e-brake method, I thought the proper way to enter a drift was by blipping the gas upon whipping the car into the corner/turn.

    Is the e-brake method mainly for use with cars that simply lack the power to initiate a drift the traditional way (aka, non purpose-built road cars)?

    Why does Ford not have a supercharged engine as a factory option like, you know, Chevy and Dodge? I don’t quite know why anyone wants 650-700 hp in a “pony car,” but since they do, you’d think Ford would build them, rather than offering a “do it yourself” kit.

    4) With Ford making the supercharhger a part number rather than an option, they save a ton of money in engineering. When Chevy and Dodge do ZL1s and Hellcats (and Demons), everything is upgraded to take the extra power from cooling systems to axle shafts. And this puzzles me how the Supercharger isn’t going to void the warranty adding nearly 300hp to the Muatang.

    This is why I urge people to stay away from Callaways and the like. They spend a couple hundred grand in tooling and software patches (where GM & Chrysler spend millions)and add a couple hundred or more horsepower, and do not other upgrades to the the powertrain or chassis and end up charging nearly the same money for the upgraded Callaway as you would the complete package (a la Z06).

    5) Yeah, I think I’d trust the “factory” ZL1/Hellcat/Z06 more than any of the aftermarket stuff. Also, I think I’d have a little more faith that the warranty would be honored with the in-house hot rods.

    Why hasn’t Honda made available the Civic Type R 2.0 Liter engine in the CR-V? That would give the CR-V the necessary 306HP it needs to be class leading. The Chevy Equinox and GMC Terrain both share a 2.0 Liter engine with 240+HP which make them very desirable vehicles in the same class as the Honda CR-V.

    It looks like Jeep has done a pretty unremarkable job in the latest redesign; but I don’t mean that in a bad way. I think this would be one tough assignment redesigning the Jeep look while making it look the same. I don’t think Jeep folks were looking for anything evo- or revolutionary looking (based on the bad remarks for Cherokee “face”). I’m not too crazy about the front bumper; it looks to be over styled just because tehy felt they had to change something.

    #1. In the good old days when everything was RWD, blipping the throttle in a turn would kick the rear end out and help rotate the car. Even so, rally drivers would tape the release button down on the hand brake and pull up on the handle to temporarily lock the rear wheels, which would kick the rear end out. When FWD rally cars came around, this became even more important.

    The Focus RS is AWD, and blipping the throttle in a turn would send you flying off the track. The e-brake will lock the rear wheels, causing the car to rotate, and once rotated, you can mash the gas and go.

    #9 I think the design of the Wrangler almost has to stay the same. It has to maintain that rugged utilitarian flat panel design. Purists almost lost their heads when Jeep put in square headlights in 1987-96. Besides keeping the design the same allows the prices on the used ones to remain quite high.
    I think about the only thing they can do is look at the biggest seller in the aftermarket area and offer it as a factory option.

    #5 Lisk. Your absolutely right as I used to work in the Ford Powertrain engine development dept. There are significant differences in the Ford 2.0L and the 2.0L eco-boost engine. The turbo engine gets better bearings and extra cooling jackets around the cylinders they are not the same block. So to just throw a turbo or supercharger on an engine that was not designed for it can be risky. That’s just within the engine alone. So as you mentioned when a transaxle or transmission and rear axle are designed for 400 hp and you start throwing 700 at it you’ll break something eventually. When GM upgraded the 2nd gen Cadillac CTSV to a supercharged engine many people with the 1st generation added boost to their older one only to find they tore up the rear end and broke motor mounts. Yea Ford can offer an aftermarket package to get you the 700hp but I’d prefer a car that was designed around the power from engine to wheels not just reaching a hp number.

    Has Jeep re engineered that front end suspension? My son in law has an 11 4 door and “death wobble” is very common.

    #14 does he have a lift kit? He may want to look at replacing the stability shock absorber. Also it may need an alignment. IMO

    Interesting that Toyota for Level4 is not going to need Lidar (ie that rotating camera on the roof).
    Ford needs to cut the Expedition weight. Who buys a 2wd of that van. Better trans and ecoboost would have a much better impact if they did a weight-loss program like Mazda does without the need for fancy carbon fibre or Alumininium to cut weight. The expedition is like sanding down a brick for lower drag….
