  1. Kit Gerhart Says:

If VW wants Scout to have much connection to the ones IH made, the first one should be a small two door SUV.

  2. Albemarle Says:

I just read than the US government is opening up the Alaska North Slope for oil drilling and extraction. Will create only 300 permanent jobs. Will also create 8 million metric tons of CO2 annually, equivalent to the tailpipe emissions of 1.7 million cars. And the Canadian government is even more in the pocket of big oil.

So buy an EV if it suits you but don’t expect to save the planet.

  3. Kit Gerhart Says:

The current M-B GLC “Coupe” costs almost $11K more than the regular GLC which has more space. Why would that be, other than the “Coupe” having mandatory 4WD, while the base regular GLC is RWD?

  4. Kit Gerhart Says:

According to Autoweek, there will be a next generation Cayman/Boxster in parallel with the BEV. From AW’s email blog:

“As part of Porsche’s pivot to electrified powertrains, Blume said the all-electric 718 is planned for the “middle of this decade.” That sounds like bad news for folks who like the current, gasoline-fueled Cayman coupes and Boxster roadsters. Well, there’s some relief: it’s not happening all at once. Blume notes the battery-electric 718 will launch in parallel with the next internal-combustion version.”

I wonder if that really means a “next internal-combustion version,” or if the current one will just continue on. They don’t sell very well, at least in the US, so I can’t imagine they would do a next generation. The current one is a great car, even the base version like mine.

Ya sorry Mercedes, a coupe does not have 4 doors

  6. Kit Gerhart Says:

5 And a coupe is not 63-64 inches high, even a huge one like Challenger.

  7. Sean Wagner Says:

4 Kit – From what I gather, Porsche is planning to continue building the present Macan alongside the new, fully-electric car. So maybe the same applies to the 718?

  8. Lambo2015 Says:

5 At Merc if the sedan wants to identify as a coupe I guess they go with it. :-)

  9. MERKUR DRIVER Says:

    5) Dodge thinks the Charger is a coupe. Didn’t the idea of a 4 door “coupe” start at Dodge when Mercedes owned them? Hmmmm…

  10. Kit Gerhart Says:

9 The first car generally promoted as a “4 door coupe” was the Mercedes-Benz CLS in 2004.

The current generation Charger arrived in 2006. Did they call it a coupe? I don’t remember that, though there was controversy about it having 4 doors.

  11. Kit Gerhart Says:

8 As far as the GLC “coupe,” it isn’t a sedan. It’s a mildly lifted 5-door hatchback.
