    If the US supertruck research program could generate such a big fuel reduction without fuel cells, why can’t these design changes offer the solution. Most are about cutting air drag in trucks and a number of small engineering changes that overall boosted fuel efficiency without radical changes in semitruck design. If these port trucks are going only short distances would battery power not be a solution as the start and end points can be fast supercharge points.

    You could have battery swap solutions for semi trucks. Arrive at the distribution centre, swap out the battery for a fully charged one. Mostly empty Trucks that go back to the port could use regen braking to fully charge the battery. Many innovative ports offer high voltage shore to ship power to avoid ships idling dirty ship diesel engines. So the same power can be used to charge up such swap out batteries.

    If Regen braking could generate so much excess power due to the mass of semi-trucks , could the excess power not be used for – container cooling, truck air-con-heating, hydrogen cooling perhaps even adaptive displays on the back of trucks

    Fiesta class is the second largest class car in Europe, its also a big seller and intro for new Ford customers. Its also more suitable for poorer markets in Asia and South America so why would Fiesta stop selling it globally? Maybe now that Americans have gone back to gas-guzzler trucks there is no need as there was post crash.
    Not sure whether smaller Mondeo or Taurus. If its still One Ford product road map then Taurus is gone.

    The Chinese already own Volvo. Lotus was more an R&D consultancy than a car maker. They do lots of work for Asian firms in suspension and engineering so the car making bit was incidental. Lotus did announce a massive roll out of new performance cars to compete with Mclaren, Ferrari etc as current cars are a joke and Lotus knows it. The value in Lotus is the engineers not the manufacturing. Lotus does have a site that could build a niche supercar.

    All small diesel engines will be gone. Diesels in trucks could offer a big mpg boost as current ecoboost engines are not as efficient as expected and hard to lightweight trucks much more than Ford has shown. Trucks are too heavy already to take batteries. Hydrogen engines are buildable but still no clean hydrogen. IC engines are still inefficient- most wasted on heat, moving mass, moving part losses. Toyota not making profit if it includes the spend on R&D. Plug-in hybrids are one bet. As long as there is cheap gas- how can alternatives survive
