Sandy was dead on why the very innovative ideas like the Tesla coolant system doesn’t happen at other manufacturers. Ford GM and alike are so big and so set in their ways of designing and building cars that new concepts and ideas would become a monumental task to do any other way than what they have developed to be their “optimal” process.
I met many engineers at one of the Detroit three that work in a vacuum and do not have any interest or desire about other components around them. They were hired to design/develop component “X” and that’s what they do. Can if be better more efficient combined or shared they don’t care because that would require involving so many other people and more time, which they have little of. Now pride will stand in the way as I would be surprised to see any of the traditional automakers ever being caught taking notes from Tesla. Don’t be fooled they may not have bought a video under the company name but they will be taking a look.

I think GM lost it’s “innovation” way when the Research Lab group disappeared. The turmoil from Roger Smith’s reorganization in 1984 still haunts GM.

Best show of the year. Love Sandy’s dead on analysis. He doesn’t hold back. Many people don’t see the disruption coming. Stevie Wonder could see it. Rivian is going to hit these big companies right in the pocket book. The only reason they sell EVs is so they can rake in the profit on the large trucks and SUV segment. When that goes away they will be scrambling.
