Automakers must meet government mandates for Zero Emission Vehicles. They’re investing billions of dollars to develop battery electric cars. Yet last year EV sales came to only 1.6% of all vehicles sold. This show explores the challenges and opportunities to selling more electric vehicles.

I enjoyed this presentation. Completely agree with Andy. Range anxiety does not go away because the automakers say 350 miles is enough. If I want to drive to California with an electric vehicle I need to have charging infrastructure available that will permit recharge in a similar time frame to a gasoline fill so I can cover 400+ miles daily with a full recharge taking no more than 1/2 hour midday lunch break. Otherwise it is not competitive and therefore not likely to gain consumer acceptance. If you consider electric as a second, city only vehicle, then the OEM claims that 250 mile range is not a problem tend to be more reasonable.

Agree with C David Hourd. As a two-time EV owner, they’re great as a second car, but still hit or miss for long distance travel. Same old story… infrastructure, infrastructure, infrastructure. It’ll take time, but we’ll get there. As an ex-environmental manager, we always saw the future as a combination of power sources. I still believe that is the reality for the next few decades.
