Funny. A guy that stiffed suppliers multiple times, declared bankruptcy multiple times, and even bankrupted a casino, (!!) really doesn’t seem to understand how money works. And obviously, he doesn’t understand how the world economy works either.

He is simply just skilled enough at racism and jingo-ism, to get folks to vote for him.

Good luck, USA. All the quarter by quarter updates in the auto industry don’t make anyone else in the world want anything that is emblazoned as “American”.

The question is, will humility come before, or after their civil war?

great show, but just a couple of points, and food for thought. You guys need to state the obvious points that,
1- The “PUSH” to EV’s was largely driven/forced by the govt.
2- the pace of the push was WAY to fast.
3- its NOT about the EV’s, the vehicles are great, its the CHARGING that is STILL the BIGGEST issue. only roughly 50% of the US population lives in single family homes, that could have a home charger.
4- our current electrical supply lines cannot handle/deliver all that power.
5- comparing US OEM’s to Chinese car companies is apples to oranges, for many reasons, and you know it!
6- you, and i are in the automotive world, most of the general public is not… they dont see things the same way you/we do. I dont care what “amazing” vehicles companies make… nothing matters except what the public WILL BUY!
7- talk bout the UPFRONT environmental /carbon footprint of making EVw batteries. Have you seen pics of lithium and cobalt mines? do know that the massive CAT dump trucks that haul work the mines, burn 250 gal. of diesel and hour, 24/7 365 x how many trucks x how many mines?
8- EV’s MAY be the future… BUT… we need to go at a pace that companies and the public can absorb!

Rob, thanks for making what I feel are valid points!
I find it hard to feel sorry for the auto makers crying over smaller profits as we try to fix a tariff system that has been taking advantage of the US for quite some time. Look back at videos of politicians from BOTH sides over the years proclaiming we need tariff reforms like those being implemented now.
Auto makers and dealers were realizing huge profits by raising prices and offering high profit expensive vehicles for the last few years. Many decided to build factories in Mexico and other lower cost areas to save money but did they lower the prices for the consumer? I would like to have Ford explain how building the new Nautilus in China and shipping it halfway around the world to the US is cost effective. A pendulum swings in two directions and now some of their past decisions are coming around to negatively affect them. Not to mention Fords ongoing outrageous recall costs. Remember, these recalls not only cost in real monetary terms but in loss of confidence and goodwill for current and potentially future customers.

To balance out the depressing aspects of this week’s topic, I listened to a TED talk by Lauren Dunford ‘The future isn’t just coded — it’s built’ https://www.ted.com/talks/lauren_dunford_the_future_isn_t_just_coded_it_s_built/transcript

Though promoting her company (electricity monitoring devices) she is lobbying for manufacturing jobs.

    Some notable quotes:

    – “For critical things, if we can’t make it, we break”

-“If we can’t build, we can’t lead. If we can’t build, we are handing the keys to our future to those that can”

    – and, a Thomas Edison quote: “Opportunity is missed by most people because it’s dressed in overalls and looks like work”

Who knows, maybe you can use this talk or unite with her in your lobbying for manufacturing jobs.

p.s. who always comes through when times are tough? The auto manufacturers – N95 masks, refrigeration… Patriot missiles?
