Hey, Is Cat going to make a new pickup truck next year? My Dad is talking about it and I see articles and YouTube videos but I haven’t seen anything on it from you guys or the Truck Show podcast. Just curious because a while back you said Ford and GM were interested in getting involved with big trucks again so they could sell both the big and small truck. So would CAT be looking at selling the support vehicles for their massive equipment.

Hi Autoline,

The following is just food for thought from an avid viewer with a strong interest in EVs and GM from being a Holden supporter down here in Australia.

Having just finished watching the latest episode of Autoline After Hours #700 with the last portion being discussions on a possible Corvette EV, raised why hasn’t there been any articles generated about the hidden vehicles captured in the background in the GM design centre during the recent Bloomberg’s interview with Mary Barra? One of these vehicles looked very much like a Corvette.

At 6:24 time stamp, there appears to be a possible Corvette EV (it’s parked directly behind a Corvette mule) – the vehicle is a little taller (possibly to fit a battery) but the front has a very similar sharp front end crease to the corvette. There also appears to be a low roof vehicle in the far background as well.

In this same interview, what is also of interest is the 2 sedans (not SUVs or CUVs) in the main area, one of which has an aggressive stance with a low roof with high rear end. Could this be the Camaro? (wishful thinking as the Camaro would probably be more like the FNR-XE concept). Related time stamps from the interview are 4:19, 4:22 and 4:46. Why I suspect they are EVs is that the actual vehicles displayed are all EVs and no ICE including the BLAZER, LYRIQ, OPTIQ, ESCALADE, CELESTIC & SILVERADO.

Something to look forward too perhaps.

Regular viewer of AHH. I wanted to pass along an idea for a future discussion. Auto insurance rates are increasing at a rate that will begin to impact new car sales. Affordability will become more of an issue as $200 / month on a new vehicle is becoming common in many urban areas.

Compliments on the podcast as it was very informative and objective. Gary still comes across as somewhat resistant to electric vehicles in general, but it’s good to hear his opinion. On the subject of BEV adoption here in the US, I have for some time now
thought a big mistake made by Elon was missing the opportunity to educate the buyers of new vehicles, beginning in 2018, so they understand the major advantages offered by BEVs. And I wish he would stay the hell out of politics! Talk about shooting yourself in the foot!

Your discussion with J.D. Powers, Elizabeth Krear was spot on. Impressive to survey ~2,000 customers every month. But I wanted to share what this 5 year, Tesla owner has learned.

Fast DC chargers are now dense enough East of the Mississippi, I no longer charge to 100% for any trip of any distance at any time. Charging to just 80% extends the battery life yet still gives 1.5 to 3 hour segments with my 5 year old battery.

Having added the CCS-1 kit, my Tesla charges at any fast DC chargers. The Tesla navigation maps both Super and CCS-1 chargers. When in doubt, I can ask, “Show ChargePoint” or “Show Electrify America” and get a list of stations within ~100 miles.

At age 74 and a widower, biological ranges are within a 3 hour drive. Of course, youngsters can go longer . . . if not married.

I have no idea how to share this with non-EV owners. Another problem is the lack of EV signs on the Interstates and businesses with chargers. A non-EV owner will never know how many they drove by.

Regardless, excellent program and I hope you and your team had a great holiday weekend. I know I will.
